When we refer to Language Proficiency, it refers to the ability to communicate properly in another languages. We also need to take into account that we need to be able to communicate in a face to face scenarios properly. Since when we refer to Language Proficiency, we need to be proficient in no just speaking, we need to read, write and listen effectively. When we want to measure someone’s proficiency, we need to know that we can divided their proficiency in levels as A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. This level refers to “A” for basic conversation that students may feel comfortable when taking about basic information from us. “B” as intermediate since learned show that we manage a variety of vocabulary and also we have good understanding of grammar. And “C” as intermediate advance for this level someone can take and express their ideas about technical information and topics.

According to Cummins (1984) “ It could take two years for a person to develop language proficiency after we get to the host country” this is to have conversational skills after we are expose to the language everywhere. However, this was re-analyzed and it was observed that it can take 5 to 7 years for some students that get to the host country to acquire academic level of proficiency.

As a conclusion, Language Proficiency plays a role at the time we are learning, because we need to develop different skills to fully understand a language. Since understanding a language is more than speaking, we need to read, listen and know what we are taking about.
