    In this post we will review about bilingualism. Since bilingualism is the ability to speak two languages, it is important to mention that the youngest we expose to a language the fastest that would be for us to acquire that language proficiently. We need to know that when we are bilingual, it can happen that we are more proficient in one language that another. This is since or proficiency could be based on variety of reasons as the time we dedicate to practice or we are exposed to one language that the other. Also it is importna to mention that there are some countries in Europe that take bilingualism seriously. since they include a second language as part of their academic training. Also they are used to listen conversations in different languages due to the multiculturality in their countries. Here in America, we have places as Quebec, where many people speak English and French.

    In some case when people are bilingual and they do not share the same mother tongue and they coexist. As example one of them can speak Spanish and the other one French, however, they both know English so they use English as lingua franca. Basically lingua franca is a language that people can use when they do not share the same mother language. When we want to learn a second a good technique could be to identify what languages are similar to our mother tongue language.

    Now that we know about bilingualism, we can have the questions why so many languages? Well, in for this questions we can take into account that since societies are constantly changing so they are some languages that were separated; once they separate they can be some variation throughout the time that can add or remove some features to languages. Also there are some languages that are mixed and can be somehow combined. This may not cause just adding new languages but also changing their gamma rules and structure.

    In conclusion, we can see that we are constantly changing and languages are constantly acquiring new rules and vocabulary. So that is it important to know more than one language since this can help us to communicate better around the world and the more we practice the more proficient we would be.

 05/23/2023 When I started this course, I was advice I will to keep taking notes about class. However, I did not think it would be that challenging and enriching for me. As I am taking my last year of university and I am enroll in a TESOL class, as part of my graduation process, the class and I were requested to keep journaling every class since that would help to the one of the last activities for the subject. However, in some part of the course I started to procrastinate some of the journals, until I realize I was missing more than 40% of the classes. That cause me difficulties when I was trying to keep on track with them. This societi even judge us before we have even start our projects. This negative feedback we can also make us feel as we are no capable to do something, and what is worst, we have even tried. In this book also share with use that we need to really need to focused on what matters and not in what other people thinks that may happen. Kibun

 Feb 29 2024      As we have reviewed in previously post, we are dealing to understand how culture can act around the world at the time that we are in an ESL classrooms environments, since culture plays a strong role at the time that we are giving and received classes in ESL context. In this opportunity we will focus our attention on Kibun.   If we have not heard the word “Kibun” we can related as “mood”. Basically is the mood that a student’s shows at the time they participate. As teachers we need to know that students are not always comfortable or willing to participate in the class. According to Fisher (1991) in Japan “Kidun refers to how people feel or think about something” we can notice about this by taking a look at their no-verbal communication as: eye contact, behaviors, facial expressions, etc. On the other hand in Korea Kibun, refers more to “mood” and “feeling”.
